"Tips on Framing"
(sorry this is in capitals ........ haven't figured that glich out yet ).....
You can get the frames I use , at Michaels ...the longer size are 8x20 (these are "Collage" frames)....the smaller ones are 8x10.
Unfortunately, they have stopped carrying the "white"8x20 ...(though they still have the black & the oak /natural wood )--but you can get any color/style you like , if you go to "google" and put in ...."8x20 frame"......this will lead you to "ebay" & "Amazon"-- custom made ,these frames are very reasonable in price ,most in the $20-$25. range ( INCLUDING shipping )...on Amazon the store front is called
"Rusty Roof".....on ebay , the store front is , " Custom Framing Factory Outlet"...the site owner is ....'Tabby 7' . excellent quality.....so many great style choices !!!!!......I was pretty excited to find this !
The 8x10 frames that work best , are wall frames ...I usually buy "Home Image " or "Home Collection" ....these are found in the wall frame section at Michaels...not in the table top section.
Also, another frame I just started using , same department ,
it's called "Gallery Solutions"...its a black frame - and very nice looking ....the item code on the back is ..."Pinnacle Frames &Accents # 08W1113 .
If you buy a table top frame--make sure its deep enough to fit the matt in, you may have to discard the kickstand backing that came with the frame, in order to make the mat fit...in this case ...you will have to purchase "framing points", that you just stick in the back edges , to hold the matt in...and you would have to use it as a wall hanging or buy an easel to stand it on.
Though if you really have your heart set on a tabletop frame & just can't get the matt to fit ....you can gently pull the fabric-stitched -piece off of the matt board its on (don't worry , its sturdy, and its only glued onto the matt board backing , around the edges) then you can reglue it onto the back board that came with the frame .
These stitches are 50 & 100 year old quilt pieces , which are pretty hardy --you really can't destroy them, unless you set it on fire :)
The photograph can be taped directly over the top of the photo that is already there. Or you can tape it directly onto the fabric. Also, another option, you can purchase mounting board (it has a sticky surface ) and mount your picture onto
that (its permanent) , then tape or spot glue the mounting board into place . Most people just go with the first method, its easiest .
If your photo is of a different size -you can trim the original mount board to fit & just glue or tape it back onto the fabric.
If you need to remove or replace a button or gem, or jewel...
just gently pull it off....if there is any glue residue-just use a damp white paper towel, and damp the glue area down slightly , and it will easily peel off ...then just let air dry, or use a blow dryer. For regluing ...I use "Sobo" fabric glue...found at Michaels or Walmart .. .but just Elmers glue is pretty much the same thing .
If, for some reason, the Stitched piece does not fit into the frame--you can trim it. I've had to do this before--and you will not hurt the integrity of the piece , if you just trim the matt board (the cardboard backing that the stitch is on) and the quilt --just a TINY bit , using regular all purpose/sewing sizzors.
Make sure you just take a tiny bit off --you can always go back & take more ---but if you cut off too much --well, THAN you've got problems ! But really-I've had to do this--- and it's easy .
